About Eric
Hello there. I'm Eric Butow, a 57x book author who's written business, finance, and computing books since 2000. You can view my entire catalog here.
The shirt and hat in my photo are for my own business. I'm also the owner of Butow Communications Group, which provides writing, online marketing, and web development services for businesses. I've put that business on hold as I try to manage serious health issues with my brain. Here's what I mean…
I suffered three traumatic brain injuries (better known by the acronym TBIs) when I was a kid doing stupid kid things. It was the 1970s, so no one knew anything more than to clean me up, make sure I could walk upright, and send me on my way. In 2026, I learned that some of my brain tissue died as a result, so I haven't had my entire brain most of my life.
Fast forward to 1999, when a virus shredded the nerves between my right ear and brain that left me with tinnitus and hyperacusis, or really sensitive hearing. The virus and the TBIs may have combined to give me the migraines I was diagnosed with in 2005.
I've taken almost 60 migraine meds (and one procedure) that didn't work, but I've taken Botox since 2018 because it still works, though not as well as it did in the beginning.
The migraines have not only given me headaches, dizziness, and balance issues, but also functional neurological disorder (FND). That is, I've had shaking and dystonia every time I lie down since 2011, and FND occasionally happens when I'm sitting or standing. What's more, since late 2025 these symptoms have become worse, and I have sharp pains and body temperature fluctuations all over my body.
Despite all this, I consider myself a high-functioning migraine sufferer. I also have a medical team that includes two neurologists, pain management specialists, and even a neurosurgeon.
No, this isn't a complete list of my medical conditions, but this is certainly enough. I'm glad I can still drive to appointments and run errands, and I've made a lot of mental breakthroughs in recent years. Even so, I'm losing energy and getting excited about stuff like this website helps keep me excited, busy…and sane.
This website is designed to create a community around my books and the people who have written them. I've written some books myself, but I've also been a co-author, contributing author, and even a ghost author for different books.
I've designed this site to be a place not only for me to share book and life stuff with you without the uncertainty of social media platforms (though I still use them), but also where my expert co-authors connect with you.
I'll also connect with you through an e-mail newsletter that not only includes updates but also my thoughts about what I've observed about tech and life. I'll reveal more about myself in the newsletter and this website community.
This site will start slowly and build toward my initial vision. That vision may change depending on how you use this site and your feedback. Eventually, I want to have a membership program.
Setting up this website and e-mail newsletter is a sign of my optimism, but I like to think I'm an optimistic realist. I won't get better, but my goal is to stabilize my health and get to a point where I can manage my body and brain effectively.
So, if I find that I can't manage this website either temporarily or permanently, I'll let you know as soon as I can. I've also done a lot of estate planning and left instructions for my family and friends to let you know when I'm out of action.
With all that said, I hope you enjoy this website, and I'm looking forward to learning from and sharing with you. Let's have some fun.
