End and Begin Again

This is the end of my experience with the Ghost platform.

This is my last post on Ghost. (Not to be confused with the Ghost to the Post football play my grandmother loved.) What's happened in the past week has convinced me that to build any serious social media effort around my books, I'll need help.

What happened? Last week, I woke up in the middle of the night with symptoms of fighting off a raging infection: fast heartbeat, night sweats, the whole thing. I got maybe three hours of sleep total that night. To my surprise, I felt reasonably functional when I woke up in the morning, and I was able to run errands.

I'm gradually recovering, but the instability remains, especially in my left ear where I had a mastoidectomy last year. It's clear that I have to pull back, talk to my medical team, and focus on where I can make money to eventually build an author platform with help.

What's more, the business of publishing is changing, and I can't sustain the feast-or-famine pattern that looks like famine will happen more often. I need to do something that will give me more financial stability, especially now that my mom has retired from her daycare business.

So, I'm working on a new business that's fun to build and I can do from home. It'll launch later this month, and I'm going to file my fictitious business name statement tomorrow. I know all my subscribers here are friends and colleagues who follow me on social media, so you can find my updates there after I close this site down on September 15.

I hope to resurrect a newsletter either here on Ghost or on another platform. But my body has made it clear that I need to manage one thing at a time now…and that thing is the one that will (hopefully) make money.

In the meantime, thank you very much for being a part of this tiny community, and I'll share updates on social media when I can. Ad astra!
